The Annual Caribbean Dermatology Conference is the premier meeting for Dermatologists in the region, and the 2018 meeting continued that tradition with another stimulating clinical programme and an exciting social agenda.

Dr. Lynne Goldberg

Lois La Grenade Distinguished Lecture

Dr. Lynne Goldberg graduated from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in New York, and then went on to complete residencies in both internal medicine at New York University and dermatology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She did her fellowship in dermatopathology at Boston University, and is currently the Jag Bhawan Professor of Dermatology and Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine.

Dr. Goldberg is triple boarded in Internal Medicine, Dermatology and Dermatopathology. She divides her time between the practices of dermatopathology and clinical dermatology. She has developed expertise in the clinical and histopathological evaluation of alopecia and runs the Hair Clinic at Boston Medical Center. She serves on the Board of the American Hair Research Society, the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, and is a Scientific Advisor to the Cicatricial Alopecia Research Foundation. She has a passion for teaching, has won several teaching awards, and lectures internationally on alopecia.

WORKSHOP SUMMARIES
PEELS AND FILLERS

Presenter: Dr. Rachael Eckel

Chemical Peels
At the of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Comprehensively analyze all skin parameters in preparation for a chemical peel.
  2. Select the correct procedure and maximal safety depth in varying skin types and diseases.
  3. Prepare skin pretreatment and manage it post-procedurally to maximize output, and limit downtime and complications.
  4. Understand the latest ingredient technologies and advances including simultaneous laser therapy.
  5. Follow clear guidelines for standardization of clinical endpoints and patient results as well as elimination of variables.

A live chemical peel treatment will also be performed to the epidermal-dermal junction.

Dermal Fillers
At the of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the distinct psychology behind an aesthetic client as opposed to a medical patient.
  2. Recognize the different types of patient objectives and how to masterfully tailor their treatment to ensure client retention.
  3. Conduct a targeted history specific to dermal fillers that will serve as a detailed framework for procedure planning.
  4. Perform a full face aesthetic assessment to accurately diagnose the underlying problems and formulate an effective treatment plan.
  5. Have an up-to-date understanding of the latest uses of dermal fillers including myomodulation for facial reconstruction and asymmetry correction.

A live dermal filler treatment will also be performed on a model.

Practical Alopecia Workshop

Presenter: Dr. Lynne Goldberg

This workshop will provide a framework for evaluation of the hair loss patient, covering the history, patterns of hair loss, adjunctive diagnostic tools, biopsy findings, clinicopathologic correlation and management pearls.

Following completion, attendees should be able to

  1. Develop an approach to the hair loss patient
  2. Recognize distinguishing features of scarring and non-scarring alopecia
  3. Create a therapeutic plan for patients with alopecia

Continuing Medical Education Credits for the 27th Annual Caribbean Dermatology Conference were approved for Eleven (11) Hours of Continuing Medical Education Credit by the National Committee of Continuing Medical Education of the Medical Council of Jamaica. Each participant should claim only those CME hours actually spent in the activity.
